Iraq threatens to sink “in a mess similar to that of Syria” if politicians fail to unite in one government warned today the UN special envoy Nikolai Mladenov from Baghdad. “If Iraq does not meet the constitutional political process, what is the alternative?” was questioned the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Bulgaria in an interview with AFP at his office in the Iraqi capital. “Danger of sinking into a mess similar to Syria. This is to be aware of people and very, very quickly,” he added.
The country is on the verge of explosion after the offensive launched one month earlier by the Sunni Islamist insurgents, led by the Islamic State (former IKIL), occupying large parts of Iraqi territory in the north and west.
“Iraq will never be the same as it was before,” before the occupation of Mosul. “There is no way to turn the country back,” added the Bulgarian diplomat.
