The government is ready to dispread the escalation of political tensions around the referendum for the “small” PPC that the political left party of SYRIZA has raised.

As announced by the President of the Parliament Mr. Evangelos Meimarakis which expressed his personal Political opinion, that the government intends to accept the proposal of SYRIZA and if 120 signatures gather by the Members -even in separate requests, then to convene the Parliament of Assembly,in order to discuss the proposal for the referendum.

” I find no reason why they proposals should not be discussed, since they are similar, ” said Mr. Meimarakis, noting however that this is his personal political opinion of which he will be consulting with the government and in any case he will operate based on the institutions Standing Order .

If all of these apply, then the Parliament of Assembly will convene immediately, possibly within the coming weekend.

The governments change of attitude -which its members are saying “we have nothing to fear ‘- is reportedly in the certainty that the plenary of the Parliament will reject the request of opposition, since, according to the Constitution, in order to be approved, needs to be accepted by at least 180MP’s.

That way, the government hopes to avoid the attempt of SYRIZA to awake MPs to block the presidential election that, according to the Maximou Mansion, is the unmentionable objective behind the initiative for a referendum by the main opposition party.
