New pictures and a new video of the Rethymnian crocodile were published. The crocodile which is two meter long was first spotted at the Potami Dam Lake, in Amari by two firemen who informed immediately the authorities.

The existence of the crocodile has become the basic topic of discussion in Crete and especially in Rethymno. The private TV channel SKAI published a video showing the crocodile swimming in the lake.

According to experts, the reptile is not expected to get off the water and the shores of the lake, but it is possible to be found at any spot of the lake. Therefore, authorities have built a fence around the area where the crocodile was spotted in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

It should also be noted that despite of the fact that swimming is not allowed in the lake, many residents swim in the waters of Lake Dam. Therefore, authorities warned residents not to swim in the lake and stay away from the shores of the lake, too.

However, some residents of the area said that this is not the first time they saw the crocodile, but they had though then that they were wrong.

“They say that the crocodile is here over a year now. Some residents have seen it, but they thought they were wrong and, thus, they did not report it. Personally, I have not seen it but I do know that the lake had 20 ducks and now only one is left. Also, many families say that they are missing some animals. For example, we miss eight lambs,” said a resident of the area.
