Thirty-three U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets travelled to Greece this summer for two weeks of training alongside their Greek military counterparts.

During this period, the future Army officers learned new military tactics, saw diverse leadership styles, and experienced Greek culture firsthand. Their military training included field exercises, marksmanship competitions, and zodiac boat operations in the Aegean Sea.

In the summer of 2014 more than 1,400 Army cadets, all of whom are also full-time university students, travelled to over 40 countries as part of the U.S. Army’s Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency program.

The aim of this program is to immerse cadets in foreign languages, cultures, and socio-economic situations and to increase understanding and interoperability among partners and allies.
While this program has been ongoing for three years, 2014 was the first year it was conducted with the Hellenic Armed Forces. By continuing joint training at all levels, the two nations aim to improve joint interoperability and readiness.

The militaries of the United States and Greece work closely together through NATO, from stabilization efforts in the Balkans to improving maritime security.
