The tailor-made bill for political party funding submitted to the Parliament aims to perpetuate a corrupted politician system and ensure the privileges of Greek politicians.
Supposedly the bill aims to introduce transparency and audit and control the behavior of the political system, but it seems that it includes measures which will affect dangerously the citizens, but also values such as the freedom of the press, the freedom of expression and privacy in partisan preferences of each voter.
The bill paves the way for powerful lobbies and individuals to buy off parties and politicians without paying the required taxes, since private donations to parties will not be subject to any taxation, despite the regulation applied for any transaction, even when parents want to transfer a property to their children as a gift. Also, the bill abolishes the anonymous donations of civilians to parties through coupons, since the name of the donor and his VAT number should be written on the coupon exposing him to public view.
Moreover, publishing complaints against politicians during election periods is banned according to the new bill submitted to the Parliament.
In practice, the political system is wasting another chance to prove to Greek citizens that has the power of self-purification and that it participates in the bloody sacrifices suffered by Greek people. Instead, it maintains the privileges it had during the period of prosperity and is completely indifferent to the collapse of the validity of the political institutions.
This bill forms a peculiar tax haven for parties, parliamentarians and their political friends, an unprecedented tax-free zone only for the political class of the country.
Under the new regulations, individuals or companies who will finance parties and MPs will enjoy full deduction of the amount of taxable income, while most Greek citizens pay taxes even for donations towards their the children or for any economic transaction.
Also, for MPs the tax-exempt status still applies, since they do not pay taxes for 75% of their total income! So, MPs pay taxes for 18,000 to 30 thousand euros, while for the rest of 60,000-70,000 euros they earn, they do not pay taxes!
