UK Senior Foreign Office Minister Baroness Sayeeda Warsi announced this morning her resignation on the grounds of her disagreement with David Cameron’s government policy regarding the Gaza conflict. Baroness Warsi’ has stated that she cannot longer support government policy on Gaza.
In her resignation letter which she presented to the prime minister and was published by the British newspaper “Independent” Warsi underlines that the government’s policy is morally indefensible and that it is not in Britain’s national interest.
According to the article, the resignation of the Senior Minister is a hammer blow for Cameron’s government, that has been criticized for failing to condemn the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip as well as the recent airstrike on a UN school in the city of Rafah.
Responding to the news of Warsi’s resignation, a Government spokesman said: “The PM regrets that Baroness Warsi has decided to stand down and is grateful for the excellent work that she has done both as a minister and in opposition.”
