Most people don’t think of Athens as a romantic city, but there are kissing opportunities in every nook and cranny. After years of ongoing research, we kiss and tell in order to save you the trouble of having to find them for yourself – though the trouble is part the fun. These spots and more are enough to enthuse any avid serial kisser…
National Garden
Explore the winding pathways and, far from the children’s playground and the animal area, you are bound to find a quiet leafy corner for a luscious kiss.
Balux
Enjoy a day at the beach but stick around after all the families have packed off with their kids and all the racket enthusiasts have left. After the sun sets it turns into a beach bar. So lie down on your lounge chair under the starry sky and share a salty snog.
Infront of the spy cameras.
There are 593 registered traffic cameras on the streets of Athens. Find one of these and pucker up under the nose of Big Brother.
At an open-aired cinema
Traditionally open-aired theaters are part and parcel of summer nights. There’s nothing more romantic than a motion picture under the stars with the scent of jasmine and basil from the fragrant pot plants around you, an ice-cream at hand and the love of your life beside you.
Syndagma Square
Thousands of tourists come here to take photos of the evzones. Photo bomb their pictures with a kiss that’s bound to make it round the world. Your kiss might even go viral on social media.
Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis) Garden
Every summer, the Athens Concert Hall hosts garden concerts. Lay down your rug, pack a picnic hamper, enjoy the concert and kiss to the tune of classical music. Check out our “Things to Do” sections for a program of events scheduled to take place here. And don’t forget the parking that penetrates so many layers deep beneath the earth that some people speculate leads to a bomb shelter. So the more you drive down the neverending parking tunnel, the further away you get from the madding crowd…
Flisvos, Paleio Faliro
The fishermen’s rock boulders lining the area between Flisvos Wharf and the promenade at Paleo Faliro make ideal seats when you’re “fishing for kisses”.
Laimo, Vouliagmeni
The area, located at the Athens Riviera, is a traditional kissing spot. Laimo means “neck” because it looks like one and not because of the necking practices of those who go there late at night.
Cable car, Parnitha
It takes you all the way from Parnitha’s parking to Regency Casino Mont Parnes. You can gamble on love by giving a cable-car trembling kiss.
Onassis Foundation
Replicate a masterpiece kiss under the replica of Auguste Rodin’s “The Kiss” at the foyer of the Onassis Foundation. Note how the lovers lips in the sculpture show longing but do not actually meet suggesting that they were interrupted without their lips having truly touched. Prolong that moment until your lips tingle and only then… move in for satisfaction.
Lykavittos Hill
The top of Lykavittos hill has always been a kissing hotspot. It’s a classic kissing spot where parents kissed and their parents kissed before them. Buy an ice cream from the canteen and kiss with the whole of Athens at your feet worshipping each and every tender moment. If you’re lucky you can kiss to the tune of a concert taking place at Lykavittos theater. Get there by the cable car and kiss there too!
The Penteli Astronomical Station of the National Observatory of Parnitha
The center is open to the public for star-gazing. The large telescopes are quite a turn-on and astrophysicist Nikos Matsopoulos has a philosophical way of talking about astronomy that takes your mind to another level. The glittering lights beneath and the starry skies above make you feel as though you are floating in space and a kiss can only serve to enhance the experience.
The Planetarium at the Eugenides Foundation
It’s comfortable velvet seats and all-sweeping sound system permeates right through you making the kisses all that more intense.
Allou Fun Park
Kissing at the top of the ferris wheel is bound to make you tremble – whether its with a kiss or with vertigo is another matter.
Protest rallies
Join a rally and give a kiss of protest for what you believe in.
And around Greece…
Greece is full of kissing spots… Some of them have even been awarded prizes. For instance, a cute sticker movement by Italian-based art collective 0707 took off around the world. Stickers titled “This is a Good Kiss Spot” found their way to the top of the Eiffel Tower, the Sydney Opera house and even all the way to Siteia… Or on the isle of Mytilini you can find St. Valentine’s relics at the Catholic Church of Theotokos.
