The Finance Ministry announced on Friday that 2.3 million euros of the Greek debt has been written off thanks to the “Greece Debt Free” organization.
Greek Alternate Finance minister Christos Staikouras accepted a donation worth 230,000 euros that he added to the total amount worth 2.3 million euros that has been collected since September 17 2013.
The organization accepts donations for the purpose of buying Greek government bonds in international markets at prices much lower than the amount owed by the Greek government and then helping to reduce the debt through the cancellation of these bonds by helping to reduce the Greek national debt to sustainable levels.
