The Greek coalition government is scrambling to correct errors noted in the new single property tax (ENFIA) and deal with a wave of anger as property owners complain that they have been overtaxed. Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras decreed the value of real estate to be in alliance to regulations of the previous year.
Mr. Samaras also asked deputies to ensure that their ministries remain operable around the time of the August 15 Public Holiday. He is interested in overcoming ENFIA problems and presenting an efficient front prior to a difficult fall ahead and next week’s negotiations with the troika on a matter of technical matters that need to be discussed.
Members of the inner cabinet of the liberal New Democracy group yesterday felt dissatisfied that statements about ENFIA revisions were announced by the socialist PASOK deputy Evangelos Venizelos. He had said that there would be a one-month extension following his own pressure on the matter.
