Panos Skourletis, the main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) spokesman on Monday called on the National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) to investigate how the amendment on the mass media that was recently passed in parliament was covered by the television and radio stations.
More specifically, Mr. Skourletis asks ESR to rule “if the non broadcasting of the specific news is in compliance with the existing radio-television legislation, or not”.
In a letter addressed to ESR, SYRIZA spokesman noted that “television stations and national news radios did not cover the new amendment on the mass media, apart from a few exceptions”.
Mr. Skourletis pointed out that a similar observation is included in an open letter by Athens’ Journalists Union (ESIEA) addressed to all editors-in-chief on Friday, August 8. He also referred to a relevant SYRIZA announcement, which was ignored by the mass media.
