The Minister of Education Mr. Andreas Loverdos met on Friday with the mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Yianni Boutari in order to discuss issues relating to the establishment of foreign-language departments for foreign undergraduate students in schools of philosophy as well as the Muslim direction of study, which has decided to establish the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Mr. Loverdos said: “We have a lot in common with Mr. Boutari the mayor of Thessaloniki. Of course we will and have already discuss issues related to education in Thessaloniki and specific recommendations of the mayor for establishing theological studies for the Muslim Theological school of Aristotle University in Thessaloniki where alone and within the meaning of powers is decided. We do not have powers to decide whether to create it or not, but since those sovereign teachers decided it, we will stand by them for this effort along with the adoption in a few days by the Parliament of the Law on religious communities, completes the situation in Greece on religious freedom “.

Thessalonikis Mayor Mr. Yiannis Boutari said: “This is really good news is the creation of undergraduate studies in English and that the only way universities will gain an extrovert, an international icon, a skill. I emphasize that we have many students who go to neighboring countries and not only in neighboring countries but also around the world to study. So Greece should acquire the ability for everything, but especially to the philosophical schools, gain a skill for the humanities, to collect children from around the world. To do so, we must have foreign language departments. On the other hand, the support of the establishment of Muslim studies at the University of Thessaloniki, which is the s decision of the Theological School itself, has the full support as you have heard of the Minister and of course of the municipality.
