In inaugurating the exhibition “Gods, Myths and Mortals” in the Greek Museum of Melbourne, the Prime Minister of Victoria Mr Denis Napthain stated that ” Melbourne is the capital of Hellenism in Australia as well as the capital of the Greek expatriates”. Further he added that : “The exhibition constitutes the ten year collaboration of the Greek Melbourne Museum with the Benaki Museum in Greece”.
From his side the President of the Greek Museum Mr. Haris Stamoulis noted that the Museum has always been a vision of his father Spyros Stamoulis, while he stated very proud of the collaboration with the Benaki Museum.
The former Greek Minister of Culture Mr. Pavlos Geroulanos stated that “The Benaki Museum is the only museum in the world that actually monitors the Greek culture and history from prehistory to the present day. “Basically is a miniature of the Benaki Museum in Melbourne for the next 10 years if not more, with amazing art crafts from the prehistoric times until today”.
