Excavation is a rigorous scientific process that requires time and thinking, added Ms Mendoni while speaking to the journalist of realfm 97,8 Mr.  Nikos Hatzinikolaou, for the progress of the archaeological work in the Tomb of Amphipolis caste, while commenting on the fact that in recent days there aren’t any newest results by saying that : “We are currently working deep in earth, so special care is required for both the workers and the monument”.

What encountered at the third chamber is treatable. But time is needed, she explained, while noted that expert scientists are currently dealing and inspecting the pile foundations.

As to what exists after the third chamber, the general secretary stated that: ” the third chamber has a lot of soil, so it is difficult to say if there is anything else. Up to today it doesn’t seem likely, but we don’t know for certain”.

Further, when she was asked about when the excavation is expected to be completed, Ms Mendoni replied in a kind of rhetoric way: ” It depends. Is the third chamber the last one? If it is maybe is possible to give an estimate on time. But if there is a next one? And if there are any further difficulties?”.

In any case, the General Secretary of  Ministry of Culture avoided to give her own estimate as to whom the tomb might belong.” Whatever we hear is mere speculation”.

Finally, Ms Mendoni concluded that “Archaeology is a science that hides many surprises. The excavation hides even bigger ones”.
