Margot Wölk talked to Berlin’s RBB television channel about her time as Hitler’s food taster. She was one of the 15 young women who were employed at Adolf Hitler’s “Wolf Lair” headquarters during the Second World War, as the Independent mentions.
Her job was to taste the food of Hitler’s food before him so as to make sure that it wasn’t poisoned. According to Wölk, Hitler was a vegetarian and he used to eat only ” rice, noodles, peppers, peas and cauliflower”.
The 96-year-old woman recalls the horror she and the other girls had to face every day. Every meal could have been their last one and the girls would burst into tears after each meal because they were glad to have survived.
“Some of the girls started to shed tears as they began eating because they were so afraid. We had to eat it all up. Then we had to wait an hour, and every time we were frightened that we were going to be ill. We used to cry like dogs because we were so glad to have survived.” Margot Wölk said.
She became one of Hitler’s food tasters by accident when she went to live with her mother in the East Prussian town of Partsch, which is now Parcz, Poland, after her home was bombed, the Independent mentions.
Her mother’s house happened to be next to Hitler’s Wolf’s Lair headquarters and the mayor of the town forced her to be one of the food tasters.
