Tribute to killed rapper P. Fyssas with clashes (photos + videos)

A memorial stone was unveiled but what started as a moving rally turned violent afterwards

Newsroom September 19 09:04

The rally commemorating the one-year anniversary since leftist 34-year-old rapper Pavlos Fyssas was stabbed to death by a far-right Golden Dawn supporter was marked with clashes. Thousands gathered in the working-class neighborhood of Keratsini where the popular rapper known as Killah P. was stabbed. At that spot, a monument was created in his honor and Panagis Tsaldari Square that was symbolically named after him.

The protestors wore white T-shirts stamped with the message “We won’t forget” and held banners that read “Pavlos is Alive! Crush the Fascists!” Among those that gathered at Panagis Tsaldaris Square were various anti-racist organizations, labor groups such as the Greek Trade Union Front (PAME), the dismissed cleaners of the Finance Ministry and many others who held balloons that they let fly into the sky as a symbolic gesture of remembrance. Amongst those present at the rally was the father of Shehzad Luqman, a 27-year-old Pakistani immigrant that had been slain by two neo-Nazis, in Kato Petralona on January 17, 2013.

Dozens of hooded demonstrators separated themselves from the peaceful march and started throwing petrol bombs and stones. About 60 bus passengers experienced moments of agony when they were trapped between roadblocks as unknown assailants tried to break one of the windows of the vehicle.
