Samaras: Greece enhances its position in the global energy map

Mr. Samaras noted that Greece was one of the first supporters of the Southern Gas Corridor

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras visited on Friday the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, in order to participate in the events organized by the Azeri government for the Shah Deniz gas field.

He met the president of the country Ilham Aliyev as well as leaders of other countries.

Mr. Samaras noted that Greece was one of the first supporters of the Southern Gas Corridor. The TAP, as a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, would run 543 km in Thrace and Macedonia before entering Albania.

The Prime Minister said that Greece’s energy policy is not limited to the Southern Energy Corridor. “We upgrade LNG station at Revithoussa raising the capacity by 73% to reach 225,000 cubic meters, while a second station is scheduled to be developed the upcoming years in northern Greece”.

In addition, Mr. Samaras said Greece proceeded to researches for hydrocarbons in the Ionian Sea and Sea of Crete.

“The Southern Energy Corridor promotes the energy efficiency and safety” said Antonis Samaras.
