The two abductees are amongst the few Cypriots that remained in the country , that chose to stay instead of leaving when Greece carried out in the summer an operation for removing all Greek and Cypriot citizens.

As everything indicates the abduction is related to ransom payment. However, according to government sources in Nicolia there has been some indirect contact with the kidnappers through local agents in Libya and there is an optimistic reflection for their release.

The two Cypriots were kidnapped on Thursday morning from within their house from armed rebels. Back in the summer they decided not to join the rest Cypriots which returned back home, but to stay and continue to work in Libya at a Cypriot construction company.
