At the beginning of the summer period, a research on the most popular Mediterranean destinations highlighted Imerovigli on Santorini whereas Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey followed.

Trivago, one of the world’s largest hotel search engine, presented an overview of the Greek summer based on Greek and foreign tourists, prices per island and travel trends.

According to users’ searches, trivago’s research showed that at the beginning of the summer the most popular Mediterranean destination was Santorini with Imerovigli coming first, Oia second and Fira sixth. Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey followed in lower places. Also, Mykonos was announced eighth, whereas Rethymnon and Chania were also included in the list.

The travel behavior of Greeks, as it was noted in travel behavior research conducted at the start of the summer period, revealed trends, most searched destinations within and outside the country, the average price per night, the average length of stay for Greeks and foreigners as well as how much time they spent on searching before making their final decision and book a room.
