Kouvelis justifies his desire to stay – He is re-elected president of DIMAR with 68%

So what if they wanted him out … majority spoke otherwise.

Newsroom October 5 06:59

Following the completion of the voting process, it was decided that Fotis Kouvelis remains president of DIMAR, receiving a favorable 68,36%. Dimitris Loukas, the second runner up received 21% of the votes, while 10% of the ballots were blank. The counting as regards the election of the party’s central committee is still in the process.

DIMAR Convention was marked by two major topics :

-The party’s stance towards SYRIZA

-The replacement of the party’s leading group and the leader himself.

As regards the first issue, most party members were in favor of approaching the Opposition Party, minding at the same time not to lose the identity of DIMAR. Within this framework it was decided that DIMAR won’t vote for or against any candidate for the President of the Republic Office.

As for the changes in leadership, Mr. Kouvelis is once again a candidate, despite the unanimous decision by DIMAR’s MPs to withdraw his candidacy and thus mark the beginning of his succession. Due to this incident, it seems that the personal relations between the president and certain MPs have been irreparably harmed.

The president of DIMAR in his speech yesterday repeated that maintaining the party’s identity and sovereignty is crucial, so as not to become a SYRIZA tributary. He also stated that becoming President of the Republic is not his goal, and as for the incessant detraction inflicted upon him, he illustriously added that ‘’if those hits were to leave a mark on my body, then lifting my shirt would expose a densely spottd spectacle’’.
