According to an article published on Daily Mail, forty British tourists have been stranded in Corfu since Sunday, after their flights home were cancelled by Ryanair due to bad weather.

The holidaymaker’s ordeal started when Ryanair announced that it had to cancel two flights to Manchester and Oslo Rygge due to the storms that hit the island.

However, even though the weather improved after a few hours, the air carrier failed to ensure that the British tourists return home as soon as possible. Some of them even claim that they have been told they may not be able to leave Greece until next week, even though they have seen planes operated by other airlines taking off from Corfu Airport.

According to foreign media, the forty unlucky passengers are enraged, as many of them now face serious problems as a result of the delays.

Les and Jane Andrews characterize their experience as pathetic and disgusting. “This was my first trip with Ryanair and it has been horrendous, said Mr. Andrews, 57, adding that his wife, 52, suffered a heart attack last year and has run out of her supply of pills.

Claire and Steven Taylor, from North Wales, told the Daily Mail that some passengers had even lost their jobs as a result of the delays.

Regarding her traumatic experience, 21-year-old Clair told Daily Mail the following: “We were staying at an all inclusive resort so didn’t bring much money with us. So we’ve been stuck for two days with hardly any food or water. They put us up in a hotel for the last two nights and both days we have come to the airport and we just can’t find out what’s going on. It’s outrageous. We are being told the next flight isn’t until the 12th but we need to get home. I’ve got a little boy who I need to get back to. And two of the other passengers say they have lost their jobs because of it. It’s disgusting. We’ve also had no help from the Embassy which is disappointing.”

A spokesman for Ryanair made the following statement: ‘Due to adverse weather, Ryanair was regrettably forced to cancel two flights from Corfu to Manchester and Oslo Rygge on Sunday. Customers were provided with hotel accommodation and meal vouchers and advised of their options; to receive a full refund, transfer free of charge on to the next available flight or travel back by rerouting through other airports.”

The airline also said that it attempted to position extra flights into Corfu on Monday and Tuesday, but all were unable to land due to weather. ‘We sincerely apologize to all those affected by these weather cancellations and are doing all we can to ensure each customer gets home promptly,’ the company stated.
