Samaras on Bloomberg: Greece can cover its financing needs without support

EU and IMf argue that Greece should have access to bailout funds for at least next year

Newsroom October 9 12:09

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras talked to Bloomberg agency and said that he was “fully comfortable” Greece could cover its financing needs in the coming years, and he was prepared to start negotiations on an appropriate oversight role of its economy from the euro area and International Monetary Fund.

However, as the article mentions, Samaras’s confidence contrasts with EU and IMF officials, since they insist Greece should have access to bailout funds next year.

According to the report, the prevailing view among European officials and the IMF is that Greece’s access to market is still fragile.

Mr. Samaras said during an interview in Milan that ending the aid payouts would not mean “a divorce” with Greece’s public creditors. But, “We want to do it properly,” he added.
