Main opposition leader Tsipras to ask for PM's resignation, should the two men meet

"Mr. Tsipras will obviously accept the invitation in order to tell the prime minister what he has to say," underlined Mr. Pappas.

Newsroom October 13 03:40

Nikos Pappas, head of Alexis Tsipras’ office, told Vima FM on Monday that the Main opposition leader intends to ask Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to resign, should he receives an invitation to meet with him.

“Mr. Tsipras will obviously accept the invitation in order to tell the prime minister what he has to say and also to reiterate our publicly known positions. In the same way that Mr. Samaras in 2011 told Mr. Papandreou that he had to resign, he will now have the chance to hear this news in person,” Mr. Pappas said.

During his interview he also underlined the following: “The debate in Parliament proved that the government does not stray from the rationale that the troika has imposed on Greece. SYRIZA is now the leading political force in the country. Therefore, it should say a clear ‘No’ to the government – that is currently not in a position to control the developments – and also tell our partners that any long lasting agreement which is binding for our country should at least have our basic approval and emerge from a Parliament with a fresh popular mandate.”
