The Greek Football Federation (EPO) announced sanctions against the third division football club, Irodotos, following the death of 46-year-old Ethnikos fan Costas Katsoulis that was attacked by home fans at a match on September 14. The team is fined 2,500 euros. Sanctions also include the deduction of 15 points, ordering 10 home matches to be played without fans in attendance and a ban on acquiring new players for the rest of the current season.
Irodotos were sixth in the 14-team Group D table with seven points in four matches.
Mr. Katsoulis suffered severe head injuries and died two weeks after the match. As a mark of respect, Greece’s Super League matches were suspended by government decree on the first week of October.
