Faithful to its established annual appointment, the 55th Thessaloniki International Film Festival starts today, on October 31 and will run until November 9, 2014. This special celebration of film will include films from all over the world, cinematic surprises, distinguished guests, tributes, and parallel events.

The 55th Thessaloniki International Film Festival is dedicated to Greek cinema and its people. After 100 years of a rich cinematic production, Greek cinema has many reasons to celebrate: the recent success of Greek films participating in the competitive international film festival circuit and the new talents emerging in the local film industry despite the difficulties are only two of them.

As part of the celebration of 100 years of Greek cinema, TIFF will present 20 masterpieces of Greece’s precious cinematic heritage. This year, for the first time, the task of selecting the program was given to the public. From a list of 200 films (from 1914 to 2014), which left their mark on the course of Greek cinema, viewers were asked to vote, on the Festival’s website, for the film that they loved best and wished to see again on the big screen.

The 20 films that were chosen by the public include, not surprisingly, many old time favorites. This is the list of the most beloved Greek films, that will be screened in the next ten days in Thessaloniki.
