The main topics discussed during the meeting between the Greek Prime Minister, the president of PASOK and the Minister of Finance, were the completion of negotiations with troika and the movements in the geopolitical chessboard in the Eastern Mediterranean which will give political advantage within the Greek government.
The government connects the two issues which however have a common denominator, which is no other than the need for Greece to remain a stabilizing factor in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean, at a time when Turkey creates instability.
Further, the government contends that developments confirm the need for a stable government, dismisses the proposal to convene a Political Leaders meeting or a meeting between Samaras – Tsipras.
According to an associate of the Prime Minister ” In a critical situation the opposition is only interested in elections which will create political instability. It is obvious that as long as they don’t withdraw the request, there will be no common ground”.
Crucial Eurogroup tomorrow
Negotiations with Troika have been delayed and the government’s goal is to end as soon as possible with the least possible concessions. Following the meeting the Minister of Finance stated that” We are in constant communication with Troika”.
In tomorrow’s Eurogroup the intentions of the partners will be made clear on both, their stance and as to when Troika will return.
Greek-Turkish and EEZ
Along with negotiating with troika, the Greek government is preparing the visit of the Prime Minister to Cyprus on Friday and the tripartite conference with Egypt on Saturday.
In a few words, Greece wants an agreement for the EEZ, which includes Kastelorizo something that will produce political results against TURKEY, and also means that such a solution restricts the corresponding EEZ of Egypt.
