The Kyklos Ensemble was able to offer us a special alternative for the three last weekends of November in the Athens Conservatory.

The best, however, was left for last, on Saturday, November 29th. Sophia Kamagianni sat before the piano and Manos Avarakis arrayed before him a range of harmonics and baroque flutes to give us a night reminiscent of … Pink Martini!

Let me explain. The first part was the usual: a presentation of classic composers like Bach, Vivaldi, Schubert, which, according to the two performers, could show off the way their instruments combine. After “Tourdion” by Pierre Attaingnant, and “Habanera” from Bizet’s “Carmen”, the ensemble moved to the second part of the show. Nino Rota’s “Parla piu piano” from the Godfather soundtrack, “La Foule” and “Que sera, sera” were able to give a jazzier finale to the night.
