The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) states that each Greek woman gives birth to 2.15 children, based on a fertility study based on data from the 2011 population census. The study found that the number of females over 10 years of age was 5,000,444 of which 34.2% had not given birth. The average age for a woman to have her first child is 25.5 years of age. 80% of the 20-29 age group, however, had not yet given birth to children. 34.4% of women aged from 30-39 years had not given birth to children.
Athens is the most sterile city with 42.1% of women not having given birth to a child, whereas fertility was the highest in the region of Evrytania where 30.2% of women had three or more kids.
