Air traffic over London is experiencing problems, after a technical problem that arose in the air traffic control center at Swanwick, so incoming flights in were forced to land in other cities’ airports.

Heathrow airport’s spokesman stated to CNN that there was a “power failure to the air traffic control center at Swanwich, controlling London’s airspace”.

According to later information from the UK Civil Aviation authority, the airspace over London has opened and only a few landings are allowed, mainly by aircraft low on fuel.

A ban on takeoffs, however, is still present. Other reports indicate that the Authorities is trying to set up backup navigation systems, but those are limited.

According to a Eurocontrol statement, the problem arose in a server that is not likely responding, due to software problems.

The brief statement clarified that the problem did not occur due to hackers.
