A large sea turtle that was found injured last September on the coast of Cephalonia, an Ionian island in western Greece, returned to her natural habitat after being restored to health by Wildlife Sense organization.

The turtle was found with a fishing line protruding from her cloaca. The experts of Wildlife Sense noticed immediately that she appeared to be bad condition. Her flippers had leeches on them and she did not have much energy at all.

After several months, it was decided that the cute sea turtle was healthy enough to return to its home, in the crystal clear waters of the Ionian sea and therefore she was released at the beach of Megali Ammos.

Wildlife Sense Kefalonia is a research and conservation project to study and protect some of Kefalonia’s threatened species and habitats. Their keystone focus species are the endangered Caretta caretta sea turtles nesting on its southern beaches. Under their umbrella, they also study and monitor their native environments; the coastal and marine zone and the many types of terrestrial habitats on the island.
