The 17 year old was hit on the head by tear gas during police operations to suppress the anti-government protests, and lost a large part of his skull. Even after that, a juvenile court sentenced him and four of his comrades to three months in prison for “Resisting authority”, during another protest in Smyrna (Izmir, western Turkey) two weeks before his injury.

The 17 year old stated he will continue to commit the same crime every day for he does not believe it is a crime. “We want an equal future with the rich. My friends also have the same view”

The 17 year old even asked why demonstrators who do not use any form of violence during the protests were convicted, while the officer who fatally wounded a 14 year old Turkish boy still walks free.
