Norman Atlantic: 5 dead, all other passengers rescued

Efforts are being made to identify the four dead people found at sea

Newsroom December 29 02:07

Four bodies were found by rescuers in the waters near the Norman Atlantic ferry where a fire broke out at dawn on Sunday while it was 44 nautical miles northwest of Corfu. Shipping and Aegean Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis confirmed the existence of the bodies that lift the death toll from the disaster to five.

Efforts are being made to identify the four dead people who were found at sea as no missing people had been counted. A Turkish passenger told Italian RAI: “I am certain that I saw four dead people infront of me with my own eyes! Many people unfortunately fell into the sea. I also saw people who had entered a boat and had then fallen into sea and I don’t know what happened to them.”

Meanwhile, all 478 passengers and crew members aboard the ship have been rescued.
