350 Greek donors from 60 hairdressing salons around Greece responded to Melina-Ludmilla Konstantinidi’s call to cut off their tresses and offer them to young children suffering from cancer and leukemia in “Donate Hair-Donate Love”. So far the hair donors have been people aged from three to 74 interested in helping children feel a little better during their chemotherapy.

Donors need to have undyed hair of 20 cm or more in length. By getting their hair cut at select hairdressers they can ensure that it will be used by children in need. For these children, a wig costs 1,000 to 1,400 euros and needs 160-200 grams of hair to be created. Ms. Konstantinidi’s initiative allows families that have financial problems to get these for free.

The brainwave came to Ms. Konstantinidi’s when she saw a similar initiative, Wigs for Kids, in Ohio.
