Tsipras apparently moved up his meetings in order to exercise “damage control” after the Dijssenbloem-Varoufakis fiasco on Friday.

Tsipras took to the phone on Friday and Saturday to emphasize that his radical leftist government doesn’t want to create a rupture in the Union, but to find a mutually beneficial solution without unilateral actions on debt. He also promised substantial progressive reforms — days after his more radical ministers said a handful of privatizations in the country were “kaput”.

According to sources close to Tsipras, the Greek PM wants to reassure European leaders, and seek time for Athens to develop its own proposals.
