Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis stood his unconventional ground on Friday and reiterated that he does, indeed, agree with two-thirds of the memorandum that previous Greek governments signed with international creditors.

The Western world’s latest “celebrity economist” answered reporters’ questions while entering the ministry in downtown Athens, where he reiterated that a laundry list of troika-mandated reforms has nothing to do with the actual memorandum, which in itself is a self-perpetuating crisis.

“Some of the reforms they have proposed are good. The Memorandum is a continuous crisis and a debt that is neither sustainable, nor bearable”.

When asked on how pressure from European partners (and creditors) will be alleviated, he said correct and democratic negotiations commenced by Europe will be the solution, adding that “we have no choice but to bear with the pressure.”
