The weather around Greece is set to worsen in the afternoon hours of Sunday around northern areas. The National Meteorological Service (EMY) points to heavy rainfall and snow with temperatures dropping to 8-10 C and 8-9 Beaufort wind velocity with some points reaching as much as 10 Beaufort in the Aegean.
State TV NERIT meteorologist Yiannis Kallianos said that it may even snow at Syntagma Square in the heart of Athens.
The weather service has also warned of snow, especially at higher altitudes and in eastern parts of the country, combined with a sharp drop in temperatures and near gale-force winds. The bad weather is expected to continue in the east and south until Tuesday.
Civil protection mechanisms are currently on alert for dangers caused by the extreme weather conditions.
