An international cartel moving large shipments of heroin in trucks across Europe received a huge blow today. Two trucks were stopped, seized and their drivers arrested right before they boarded a ship bound for Italy in the western port of Patras.
Drug enforcement officers searched the two trucks and discovered the crypts within which the heroin packages were stored. The count has not been concluded yet.
The two Slovak drivers were arrested and during interrogation it was discovered that they had picked up the packages from a warehouse in Peristeri, west Athens, and another from Aspropyrgos, west of Athens proper. Authorities raided both warehouses simultaneously. It is still unknown what exactly has been found.
Police have also issued warrants for two local men. Both are thought to be leaders in the cartel run by Slovak drug traffickers who transport drugs through Turkey.
