The Eurogroup meeting in Riga, Latvia, has ended with tweets by EU economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici and European Commission VP Valdis Dombrovskis tweeting on Greece. Bloomberg reported that Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis was accused of being a “time-waster, a gambler and an amateur”.
“The Greek evaluation must be completed, and then the tranche can be released”, stated Jeroen Dijsselbloem after the Riga Eurogroup.
The Eurogroup head estimated that there are still huge differences with Greece, whereas he also stated that “we are running out of time”.
“We will reevaluate the situation in May’s Eurogroup”, he noted.
The Eurozone’s Finance Ministers expressed their worry on the small steps that have been taken to reach an agreement. Valdis Dombrovskis, vice-president of the European Commission noted the need to speed up negotiations.
Pierre Moskovici underlined that the onus is on Greece, on the matter of financial obligations.
EFSF director Klaus Regling noted that there will be substantial sums for Greece, but only by the end of June and only if there is a reform agreement reached until then.
The negative “clime” of the meeting was accentuated by German FinMin Wolfgang Schaeuble, who told journalists on his way in: “You should visit beautiful Riga, because you won’t see any results here today”.
