Political percolation within the Greek opposition appeared to pick this week amid the increasingly frustrating “last stretch” negotiations between Athens and its institutional creditors, as well as a budding pro-Europe movement that has recently emerged on the pavement.

On Wednesday, ex-PM Costas Karamanlis met with his one-time foreign minister Dora Bakoyannis for a one-hour meeting at the former’s office.

In comments to reporters, Bakoyannis said the proposal sent by the leftist SYRIZA government to creditors was negative, saying it was full of recessionary measures (tax and tax) and anti-growth.

Nevertheless, she said that if presented to Parliament it must be passed. Moreover, she said ND must support the proposal, as it ensures the country’s membership in the euro zone.

Meanwhile, centrist Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis was received in Brussels by European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici.
The leader of Greece’s newest Parliament-represented party said he briefed Moscovici that his pro-Europe and pro-reform party, along with the vast majority of MPs in the Greek parliament, support an agreement signed by the Greek government and the country’s European partners.

Greece’s society wants “an end to this torture”, he characteristically said.

Theodorakis reiterated his party’s emphasis on boosting growth in the again recession-plagued country and continuing to find areas were state spending can be cut.
