The Greek Public Prosecutor is conducted research to determine if there was an attempt at hacking the online system used by the General Secretariat for Public Revenues.
The Cybercrime Department is investigating possible involvement of non-political persons in the “plan-B” drawn up by former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis. Regarding the political aspect, under investigation is the possibility of actions made by Varoufakis that can be undertaken only by the Parliament, after they have been forwarded by the prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Greece (Areios Pagos).
The first witnesses will take the stand this week, with non-political persons accused of:
- Violation of the law on protection of personal data
- Violation of state secrets and confidential data
- Involvement in a criminal organization or conspiracy
- Breach of Duty
- Violation of the relevant articles of the Penal Code for preparatory processes for currency counterfeiting
The former finance minister is accused of the following offences:
- Working towards high treason
- Personal data breach of citizens according to law 2472/1997
