Greek authorities proceeded with a series of arrests related to an alleged drug trafficking and prostitution ring on the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos.
Police arrested two local men in an operation carried out in the early hours of Saturday. One of the suspects was a former coast guard and the other had been arrested for a bank robbery in 2011.
According to the findings of an ongoing investigation, the suspects would operate under the cover of a legitimate tourist office and exploit their contacts to procure cocaine, marijuana and various synthetic drugs to wealthy clientele. Their illicit activities allegedly covered the whole tourism gamut, including night clubs, bars, hotels, lodgings, luxury yacht rentals etc.
The 34-year-old suspect was also charged with procuring call girls to clients. After a police search at their homes it was discovered they were in possession of various illegal narcotics, electronic precision scales; five mobile phone devices and more than 6,000 euros considered as drug proceeds, while the authorities confiscated a car and a motorcycle.
