A great deal has changed since Matt Damon played Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Ultimatum” eight years ago. World developments such as Edward Snowden’s exposition of NSA’s surveillance practises and Greece’s financial meltdown inspired Damon and director Paul Greengrass to create the latest chapter in the film series.

“Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne hrough an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world,” Damon told BuzzFeed while promoting The Martian. “It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy.” “We’re starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy. And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of….” Damon trailed off with a laugh.

The next chapter of the Bourne films is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016. The cast includes Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Julia Stiles.
