Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras and main opposition conservative New Democracy (ND) leader Vangelis Meimarakis had an unexpected meeting at the airport at Herakleion, Crete, as the former was departing following a political campaign in the region while the latter ws kicking off his tour.
Smiles and friendly exchanges led many to ponder whether a national unity government may be a good thing!
Flashnews.gr reports that Meimarakis was the first to be informed of Tsipras’ presence at the VIP lounge of the airport. He said: “We’re from Crete and Cretan hospitality is famous. Hence, when Mr. Tsipras was in Crete, we visited him and wished him a safe journey.”
Present also were New Democracy deputies Olga Kefalogianni, Dora Bakoyannis and Manolis Kefaloyiannis who accompanied the conservative leader to Crete.
