A latest opinion poll, released on Tuesday, shows conservative New Democracy garnering 27.5 percent of respondents’ preferences, barely ahead of SYRIZA, which posts 27 percent.
Third place amongst respondents’ preferences is ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn and the social democrat PASOK-DIMAR partnership, both posting 6.5 percent. Centrist Potami and the Communist Party garner 5 percent.
The poll was broadcast by the Athens-area TV station Action24 and conducted by the Pulse firm on Monday and Tuesday. The undecided voted recorded 7 percent of the total sample queried.
Newly formed Popular Unity, the far-left breakaway bloc from SYRIZA, was favored by 3.5 percent of respondents, the Union of Centrists 2.5 percent and the Independent Greeks party (AN.EL) at 2 percent, which would leave it below the 3-percent threshold for entering Parliament.
