EU Economic Commissioner Pierre Moscovici took straight aim at flamboyant former Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis on Thursday, saying the “radical Marxist” was engaging in mere delay tactics without ever offering any tangible proposals.
Moreover, in a “wink” to the re-elected Tsipras government,Moscovici told reporters he prefers working with Varoufakis’ successor, the decidedly low-key Euclid Tsakalotos.
“Mr Varoufakis wasn’t there (at Eurogroup meetings) to negotiate …. We had countless discussions with him. These discussions were vain, pointless and academic. He only wanted to play for time, not make concrete proposals,” Moscovici said.
“I’m happy that Euclid Tsakalotos is the new finance minister, because he is somebody we know,” he added.
