Alternate Minister for Tourism Elena Kountoura expressed her optimism that Greece would continue to be one the top tourist destinations in the world, speaking on occasion of the World Tourism Day.
According to official figures the 2015 tourism season is expected to close with a record arrival of 26 million guests and revenues of up to 15.5 billion Euros.
Kountoura said the tourism ministry wants to improve on those numbers, stressing ‘we are vigilant in order to make even bigger steps and bring better results’.
She continued by pointing out the significance of tourism in Greece stating noting that it accounts for 20% of the country’s GDP while generating 1 million direct or indirect jobs.
Improved infrastructure, a stable tax system and better value-per-money in whatever sector the state still manages, like regional airports, would be “tangible steps”.
