Two men linked to Paris attacks registered as migrants in Greece

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras held an emergency meeting with defence and security chiefs

Newsroom November 15 12:36

Greek authorities confirmed on Saturday that two men investigated by the French police in connection with the Paris attacks had passed through Greece. French authorities had asked for a passport check and fingerprinting of a man who died in the attacks as well as those of another.

25 year old Ahmed Almuhamed entered Serbia Oct 7 from Greece, then to Croatia, Austria, France.

Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Toskas released a statement regarding one of the men who was found to have registered on the Greek isle of Leros in October: “We confirm that the Syrian passport holder came through the Greek island of Leros on October 3 where he was registered under EU rules.”

The authenticity of a passport found in Paris near the body of one of the attackers at Bataclan concert hall where 82 people were killed is being checked. The discovery of the passport indicates a possible Syrian connection to the attacks.

The men’s passage through Greece into Europe came as no surprise as European security officials had feared that ISIS supporters could take advantage of mass migration to enter Europe.

Back in September, Greece’s Migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas had said that it would be “foolish” to completely rule out that jihadists were sneaking into Europe by taking advantage of the wave of refugees.

In Greece, Defence Minister Panos Kammenos said that “it is now clear that together with the victims of Middle Eastern Islamofascism that come as refugees there are also extreme factions crossing into Europe.” He made this statement following an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras that included the prticipation of police, migration and intelligence chiefs.

In his statement, Tsipras said that the refugees fleeing Syria are hunted by the same terrorists that struck Paris. In a televised address he said that solutions to the drama of the people who leave their homes must be found.
