The official page for the game, “Dead or Alive Xtreme 3”, said that the latest installment in the well-known video games series will not be released in the U.S. or Europe because of issues regarding how women are treated in the game. The game is slated for release in Asia on Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita early in 2016 and is a spinoff from “Dead or Alive” that features female characters lounging by the beach and playing volleyball.
Asked on Facebook why the game will only be featured in Asia, the representative for the game on the official website said:
Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you [all sic].
The game has always drawn attention for its derogatory view of female characters, however one report stated that Xtreme 3 would also have male characters.
