A Greek Messianic Jewish man, Nicholas Thalasinos, aged 52, was one of 14 fatalities at the San Bernardino shootings that took place on Wednesday in California. Jennifer Thalasinos said her husband – a health worker who was employed alongside Syed Farook – was a devout believer who wore a tzitzit, traditional fringe tassels as well as a tie clip featuring the star of David. Not only that, but he was also an outspoken critic of islamic terrorism.
The deceased’s wife says her husband had worked with the shooting suspect Syed Farook and was aware that he was Muslim but had never told his wife that his co-worker had extreme views. “They got along,” she said. “As far as I know (Syed) got along with everybody. That’s what is so shocking!” she says.
A friend of Thalasinos, Kuuleme Stephens, had told the Associated Press, that she had a telephone conversation with the deceased while he was at the party. She says that while he was on the phone with her, he brought her into a debate going on at the scene. he loudly declared that Farook “doesn’t agree that Islam is not a peaceful religion.”
In the background, she heard Farook counter that Americans don’t understand Islam. A frustrated Thalasinos had told her: “I don’t know how to talk with him.” Stephens said that at the time she thought it was just an ordinary party discussion and could not sense that it would lead to such a violent attack.
According to Stephens, Thalasinos had received a threatening message related to Israel on his last Facebook post.
There were 14 deaths as a result of the shooting in California.
