2016 comes with great tax hikes

The new year will bring many tax measures mainly to farmers, property owners and middle income people

The draft budget tabled last week in Greek Parliament has set the tone of what we should expect next. But, the overall picture will result from the new tax bill which will be submitted for public consultation in the coming days and will be part of the fulfillment of the second list of prior actions to be assessed by the representatives of the Institutions on their visit to Athens in about two weeks.

However, one is certain: 2016 will bring many tax measures mainly to farmers, property owners and middle income people.

According to reports, the new bill will include among other tax hikes for farmers and incomes resulting from renting properties, a new ENFIA tax hike and a new tax band with solidarity tax being integrated in income tax.

More specifically, farmers would see a great income tax hike, since from 1.1.2016 the tax rate will be increased from 13% to 20% and then, in 2017, to 26%.
