President Pavlopoulos meets with ND leader Mitsotakis

"New Democracy will respect its constitutional role as opposition" said Mr. Mitsotakis

President of Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos received newly elected main opposition New Democracy (ND)leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday at the presidential mansion.

Mr. Mitsotakis said New Democracy will respect its constitutional role as opposition and stressed that he had the opportunity to speak with many people during his election campaign and hear their concerns and expectations.

Mr. Pavlopoulos congratulated Mitsotakis for his election and wished him success in his new duties. He expressed his certainty that ND under Mitsotakis’ leadership will substantially contribute in order Greece’s position to be established in the European Union and the eurozone particularly at this crucial conjucture that the cohesion and the future of the European structure, for finacial and humanitarian reasons, is under pressure.

Moreover, Pavlopoulos reminded that Mitsotakis is holding the helm of the party that paved the way for Greece to become member of the EU.

On his part, Mitsotakis thanked the president and reassured him that ND will maintain its constitutional role. “We will be a responsible and reliable main opposition which will always submit realistic proposals for the solution of the huge problem that the country faces,” stated Mitsotakis.
